Non-Genetic Risk Factors for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

چکیده
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder linked to multiple genetic and environmental factors. Despite its complex pathology still undetermined etiology, number of factors have been found be closely associated with the incidence AD. Although molecular mechanisms linking many these AD are unclear not necessarily causative, their identification control might key preventative measures. Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity other life-style habits recognized as established risk for Other emerging investigated potential contributors overall dementia include anemia, obstructive respiratory vitamin D deficiency, thyroid imbalance, inflammation depression. This review summarizes factors; it also provides an insight into modifiable elements, which may reduce dementia.

Medical Risk factors for dementia; A case-control study
Introduction: Dementia, the fifth cause of death in older adults with the most significant financial, social and caring burden on health systems across the world. Aim: to determine the most common medical risk factors for dementia in the retired population. Methods: A case-control methodology was utilized for this study, within which 180 established dementia patients compared to 371 controls ...
متن کاملOrbitofrontal Dysfunction Discriminates Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia from Alzheimers Disease
Background: Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) patients show prefrontal cortex dysfunction and atrophy. Methods: We investigated whether executive function in conjunction with prefrontal cortex atrophy discriminates bvFTD and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients efficiently at presentation. Results: AD and bvFTD patients were distinguishable by 89.5% on their performance of 3 execu...

There is little doubt that dementia is a very common cause of disability and dependency in our society. Since dementia of whatever type is usually more common with increasing age, then as population demographics change, so will the prevalence of dementia. Dementia is a generic term and the objective for clinicians, once dementia is suspected, is to attempt to define the cause. Alzheimer’s disea...
متن کاملRisk factors for vascular dementia and Alzheimer disease.
Alzheimer disease and vascular cognitive impairment are important causes of cognitive decline in the elderly. It has now been shown that vascular risk factors have measurable negative effects on the brain and are associated with cognitive impairment. We review vascular factors that might be responsible to cognitive decline in Alzheimer disease and vascular cognitive impairment and the correspon...
متن کاملMilitary risk factors for Alzheimer's dementia and neurodegenerative disease
* The linkage between head trauma and neurodegeneration represents not only an important public and military health issue but also provides crucial clues for putative risk factors for numerous late-life chronic brain disorders. Today, there is now growing evidence that a single traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained early in life might trigger a cascade of neurodegenerative processes. The outco...
